Meet Our Staff
John Witvliet, who serves as both a theology faculty member and an advisor on University missional initiatives, is taking on the role of Interim Director of Spiritual Life on campus. John will be working closely with the Student Formation and University Ministries teams in an advisory capacity for the current year as well as in planning for the long-term vision for UM.
Lisa Weaver, an ordained minister and prior Columbia Theological Seminary faculty member, has joined the Belmont community as Interim Campus Pastor and Pastoral Theologian-in-Residence for the Student Formation division. Lisa's wide ranging experience includes leading a pastoral care ministry for those who struggle with father-daughter relationships, serving as a liturgical consultant, researching topics in 4th and 19th century liturgical history, serving on the boards of several professional and grant-making organizations, and preaching in wide range of denominational contexts.
In addition to his role as Program Coordinator for University Missional Initiatives, previous Presidential Fellow Garrett Jacob has moved into the UM office to serve as Interim Program Manager for Spiritual Life Leadership & Engagement. Garrett will work with our 35+ student Spiritual Life Ambassadors, 16+ Faith Development Organizations and our various partners across campus.
Pam Hazelwood, a long-time and much-loved retired Belmont staff member, will return to campus once again to work in the UM office, managing day-to-day needs and greeting students.
A key feature in our staffing is partnership with faculty and staff leaders to assist with worship, small groups and more:
- Voxology ensemble director Brian Seay serves as Chapel music mentor and coordinator.
- Worship Studies faculty member Adam Perez serves as our director of worship.
- Religion and the Arts Professor Steve Guthrie leads a new mid-day contemplative prayer service on campus twice weekly.
- Through his new work with the Belmont Formation Collaborative, Theology faculty member Adam Neder will be developing plans and curriculum for student small groups on campus.
- The team also partners closely with Faith-Based Engagement and Church Relations' Todd Lake and Benita Walker and the many guest presenters they bring to campus to participate in the What's Your Why course and many other campus-wide initiatives.
- Shelby Garner, Director of Global Health Innovation & Professor of Nursing, joins the team leading and planning international mission trips for Spring 2026.
- The office is grateful to Presidential Fellows, Annalise Mitchell and Kayleigh Reindl, for their contributions and support as well.
